Would the iPhone be more appealing to business users if it was compatible to Word, Excel and Powerpoint?Microsoft thinks so and they are joining forces with Apple to support them in this challenge.
When the next version of the iPhone is launched, likely in June, Apple are hopeful that it will be compatible with Microsoft Exchange Server , this will be another product to complete with Blackberry because the new version of the iPhone will provide push email, contacts and calendars as well as remote wipe. It is not too long ago that Blackberry had this market place almost to themselves.
Apple’s intention is to build Exchange ActiveSync right into the iPhone having agreed a licensing deal with Microsoft, the iPhone will connect out-of-the-box to Microsoft Exchange Servers 2003 and 2007 for secure over-the-air push email, contacts, calendars and global address lists. Built-in Exchange ActiveSync support also enables security features such as remote wipe, password policies and auto-discovery.
