O2 has begun a 6 month consumer trail of broadcasting DVB-H television to mobile phones from one of it masts in Dublin, IrelandO2, part of the Telefonica group,  has started a six month trial of broadcasting DVB-H TV on mobile phones in Ireland to see if there is a demand for the service. The trial uses digital video broadcasting handheld technology, similar to digital terrestrial television.

This means the service is not affected by the number of people using it.

Channels available to the 350 testing O2 customers include Sky Sports, Sky News, Setanta Sports and The Discovery Channel, a long with RTE1 and RTE2. Users will also be able to interact with a music and games channel using the mobile network.

The O2 trial is in partnership with Arqiva, and will run until the end of August. During the trial they hope to discover how the service is likely to be used once it is commercially available and how great the demand would be.
