The mobile phone network Orange would claim to be the pioneers of mobile TV

They are delighted to have received a DVB-mode frequency for it’s Orange Sports TV channel in France. Orange was successful in the round of applications that were made to the French regulator last year.

Orange will be the first mobile phone network to launch and boadcast Sports TV to mobiles in France, the channel is already available via the internet and Orange TV.

Because Orange have a TV channel that is backed by a specialist team of writers and crew already in place now that they have the above spectrum available to them, their aim will be to offer access to the channel to its 6 million mobile phone users.

It will be interesting to see if the availability of Mobile TV will arrest the decline of 3G higher priced mobile phones and smartphones such as the Nokia N95 that Europe is experiencing. If the consumer is going to remain frightened of commiting to new mobile phone contract or upgrade their existing handset to a new 3G mobile phone, Orange could be disappointed with the take up of their new Mobile TV services, “the joy of being a pioneer”
