Staff in all the 02 stores have been warned that if they do not sell the new Apple 3G i-Phone properly and adhere strictly to head office rules they will be sacked.

Despite the claim made by Apple that it will be impossible to unlock the 3G i-Phone, does this mean that 02 believe that the box breakers will definitely be able to unlock the handset? 02 staff cannot sell more than one mobile phone to any customer and if the phone is being bought with a mobile phone contract it must be activated before the customer leaves the store, previously they could buy an i-phone and take it home to connect via itunes this was a big help to the box breakers.

02′s prepay upgrade scheme is another loop hole for the box breakers to take advantage of, staff have access via the in-store intranet to the Pre Pay Customer Management Tool (PCMT) this allows the 02 staff to reward high spending customers with discounts of up to £100, it is quite an easy task to search through mobile phone numbers to find one with a high usage pattern and use the discount offered for a friend or box breaker that they are supplying with a Pre Pay i-Phone.

02  staff are very worried about their jobs because thay are not to know the difference between a genuine customer and one that is a box breaker with the ability to unlock phones, surely the answer to box breaking is easy,if a customer is not prepared or is not credit worthy enough to sign a mobile phone contract the mobile phone networks should not subsidize the price of Pre Pay mobile phones.
