Vodafone signs up to the new Nokia net portal

Ovi is the name given by the worlds biggest mobile phone manufacturer Nokia to their new internet portal and by signing up to work with Nokia, Vodafone have given this new portal a massive vote of confidence. The financial markets were pleased by the announcement because Nokia’s share priced increased, the markets must believe that this new initiative will increase Nokia’s revenues.

This new relationship was instigated by Vodafone and it really is a big break from previous attitudes. In the past the mobile phone networks were always very careful to ensure that the mobile phone manufacturers did not share in their revenues.

Vodafone must believe that the combination of their services and the opportunity to access the internet via Ovi will give them the opportunity to make a powerful offering to their mobile phone customers.

How much affect Vodafone’s failure to secure a deal to distribute the new Apple iPhone had on securing this deal with Nokia is open to conjecture? The mighty Google are constantly being rumoured to be about to bring their services to the mobile phone market place, we are sure that networks such as Vodafone would love to join forces with them.

The demand for access to the internet via mobile phones is phenomenal and the opportunity that such services bring to increase revenues is mouth watering.
